Orange Pecan French Toast

  • 6 eggs
  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup half-and-half
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 loaf good bakery bread (or cinnamon bread), cut in six one-inch pieces, and then cut diagonally
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • ½ cup pecan pieces

Whisk together eggs, orange juice, milk, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla. Place bread in a single layer in a casserole or jelly roll pan that just fits the slices. Pour the egg mixture over slices. Cover and regrigerate overnight, turning once.

Pour the melted butter in a jelly roll pan, spreading evenly. Arrange the bread slices on the pan in a single layer. Sprinkle with pecans. Bake at 400 degrees until golden, 20-25 minutes. Serve with syrup.
